Let me ask you: how many little nicknames do you have for your pet? Probably more than you can count on one hand. Because they aren’t just “the dog/cat/bird/gerbil” – they’re the breakfast buddy, the trail companion, the one who snuggles up on the couch after a long day. They have their own personality, habits, goofball moments, and love language.
That’s why pet milestone sessions are so close to my heart.
I still think about Felix, a 17-year-old cat whose mom booked a birthday session to celebrate their years together. He wasn’t big on posing (let’s be honest, most cats aren’t), but she didn’t mind one bit. Over a couple hours and several cute outfit changes, we worked at his pace and let him explore my studio while we captured connection, not perfection.

Those sessions aren’t about a Pinterest-perfect birthday cake. They’re about honoring the relationship you’ve built together across countless mornings, vet visits, holidays, and quiet afternoons.
I talk to a lot of folks who hesitate to book sessions for their pets’ birthdays, Gotcha Days, or senior years. Maybe they feel a little silly. Maybe they’re worried their pet won’t sit still or cooperate. Sometimes they’re just not sure what they’d even want.
But here’s the thing I always tell my clients:
You spend more time with your pet than almost anyone else in your life. Celebrating that bond with photos isn’t silly. It’s meaningful.
Whether your pet is turning one or twelve, just came home from a rescue, or is nearing their last chapter, these milestones are opportunities to mark the love you’ve shared in a way that lasts.
And you don’t have to figure it all out yourself. That’s where I come in.
I tailor each session to the animal’s personality and comfort level. Silly hats? Only if your pet is into it. A relaxed sunset photo at your favorite Cleveland Metroparks trail? Perfect. We find what feels right—for both of you.
No two pets are alike, so no two sessions should be either.
Every session is flexible. If your dog is reactive or gets overstimulated, we can stay in a calm space like your backyard, or schedule the shoot during quieter times of day. I’m here to follow their lead.
This isn’t about recreating the same session someone else did. It’s about you and your pet.
Want to include your dog’s favorite toy? Their go-to blanket? We can build the whole session around your daily rituals or treasured items. Some of the most emotional images I’ve ever made happened during the quietest moments – a hand resting gently on your dog’s head, a shared glance, a content sigh.
All of that tells your story without needing much extra.
It’s easy to think the spotlight should be entirely on your pet for these sessions, but I always encourage clients to step in front of the camera too. I get it – most of us aren’t used to having our photo taken. But I promise: these images aren’t about what you look like. They’re about what it feels like to be loved by your pet.

These are images your future self will be so grateful to have.
You’ll look back and remember the way they leaned into your leg when they were tired, or how excited their eyes looked that day. You’ll remember being present in that moment together.
Your pet might not remember their birthday party or that special treat from the bakery. But you will. You’ll remember the soft ears, the wagging tail, the goofy grin. And you’ll want to hold onto that when the routine changes and years pass.
Milestone sessions are tangible celebrations of everything your pet brings into your life. Whether it’s a joyful beginning or a thoughtful goodbye, they help you pause and truly see the love you share.
If you’re nervous, nostalgic, or unsure, that’s okay. There’s no “right” way to do this. But don’t let that stop you from honoring a bond that means the world to you.
Whether your dog just turned one, you’re planning a Gotcha Day surprise, or you know a senior session has been on your heart for a while, I’d love to help you create something meaningful.
